The name says it all. 24 hours of some of the most technical single track Wisconsin has to offer. Most of the team showed up in some form or another. Matt (Papa) Dale showed up for a 12 hour solo. Todd and Erik rocked out a 24 hour duo. Even Dakota and Dustin Dale showed up to cheer and help their dad. But I had something different on my mind, the 24 hour solo. I signed up a long time ago. It seemed like a good idea at the time. But as I did my final checks before the race, I was having some doubts. Having never done a 24 hour race before, I didn’t know what to expect or how to prepare. I only could go off of the advice of veteran endurance racer and former Wausau 24 champion, Ron Stawicki. His advice was to “do the race, then you’ll know how to prepare next time.” Ok, I could try this. With one ear bud in, I started the race. Ten a.m. seemed a good time to start; but ten a.m. the following day seemed far off. I got into my groove easily in the first couple of laps. Wausau has a lot of variety to offer in this course. You start off going through a lot of roots then into some flowy single track sections, into a few rock gardens. It offers all the challenges you could want without getting bored. Perfect. The last thing I need to do is get bored. Each 10.5 mile lap takes about an hour. I had plenty of time to roll into the pit and get a fresh bottle of fluids and food if I needed it between laps. I have to thank my family and friends for helping me with the fuel stops. About 7 laps in I started to get some cramps in my leg that would bother me for about the next 30 miles. But at that point I needed to stop thinking about my sore body and worry more about my final daytime pit stop. This was an important one, I needed lights. The rules required me to have them on my bike around 7 pm, but I didn’t need to really use them until later. Getting into the dark laps, I knew it was time to put on a fresh kit, new chamois cream and maybe see where I stand. I had been in the top 15 most of the day while the leaders duked it out. The guys in the neighboring pits were pushing hard, maybe too hard. They wanted to win and burned themselves out. It was a true tortoise and hare race. They ran fast and had to rest. I went slow and steady and stayed consistent throughout the day and night(and day). Somewhere in the night, while others were dropping like flies, as I pushed on and I moved up in the results into 3rd place. I knew this race was going to hurt. I knew it would be mentally draining to hit the same trails for 24 hours. What I didn’t expect was how emotionally draining it could be. It was 8 am. I had ridden for 22 hours, the whole time telling my legs “just a little further.” Now my mind had no more and I broke down. I added about a half an hour to this lap as I crumbled within my own mind. Physically and mentally exhausted, I stumbled in completing another lap. My parents gave me the pep talk that I didn’t want to hear, even though I knew I needed it. I scooped a last shovelful of chamois cream and reluctantly took off. After all, I was in third, which was actually quite unexpected, and this was going to be my final lap. Just after 10, a full 24 hours after starting, I finally came into a finish. I got a good look at the winner’s bike. Like mine, it was covered in dirt. He had all but burned through his tires. He had threads showing all along the sidewalls from the punishment that the rocks dished out. Luckily my Maxxis Aspens were still in great shape. As I thought about it, my bike held up extremely well. I didn’t have the mechanical issues that you would expect in 24 hours of abuse. All in all, I did 21 laps, over 230 miles and finished on the podium. Can’t wait for next year!</span>Greghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15297611823139973442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-220667059506675442.post-77656556997500999482012-07-16T22:19:00.001-07:002012-07-16T22:19:48.639-07:00Falling ShortThe two most important races of the season. Especially the Pro XCT Missoula on Saturday. Climbing legs were negatory come the 6 pm start, and stayed that way the whole race, didn't finish last, but wasn't to far off. It may be time for me to start thinking of getting a coach for the 2013 season so I don't feel flat on the more important races of the season, and generally improve my results. Anyway, now it's time for some R and R before Subaru cup and collegiate.
Enough of my complaining though! New member Mike Dickinson took the cat 4 state crit championships in Colorado, so rad! Hard to post pics when I'm on the road, so a big picture collage shall be posted of the trip/ Mikes podium when I return sometime this week, keep checkin' in !Greghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15297611823139973442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-220667059506675442.post-11035909107795432382012-07-08T17:24:00.002-07:002012-07-08T17:24:52.750-07:00Nationals Super D / ShortTrackAfter the XC on Friday I was a little bummed. Saturday brought Super D course practice. I got in three solid runs, and was feeling really fast. So fast I thought I could have a shot at top 10. Come race time on Sunday (I went off at 9:12) I was ready to rock it. Started with a 5 minute climb, which I felt as good as you can on such a climb before a roaring descent. Overall during the run I had a few close calls, and dabbed a couple of times on some of the switchbacks, didn't turn out as smooth as I hoped but at least I didn't crash. I ended up 26 of 60 in the pro. Crazy how close all the times were in the pro race, making every corner count.
Short track was later that day, and wasn't feeling super great about racing with the normal U.S. pros. Start time was at 330, I was called up in the back (no surprise there). I slipped my pedal at the start, cauesing me to get cut off, but passed a Lot of people after 2 laps and ended up 30 of 50. I just barely got pulled. Oh well.
Next Chris and I are road trippin to the pro xct Missoula, never been to Montana !Greghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15297611823139973442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-220667059506675442.post-29732478168713846462012-07-07T14:09:00.002-07:002012-07-07T14:09:35.051-07:00Nationals XC Race RecapThis years XC nats race came and went quicker then usual. We arrived Wednesday night real late, and I pre rode the course on Thursday. Started with a quick start loop into about a 10 minute loose gravel climb that stayed steady at 15-25%. Then a loose descent with tight flowy switchbacks.
My game plan was to take it "easier" the first two laps (we did five). Gun went off Friday morning, and I was sitting in the top 15 or so. I wasn't really concerned about my start, because I knew a lot of guys would go crazy the first lap and just beat themselves up on the climb for the next four laps. The laps went on, and that was true, but not as much as I'd hoped.
What turned into a race plan, turned into just being able to stay on my bike on the climb in the first place. It was just so steep and loose in some spots a lot of people would dismount. After the first 2 laps my position pretty much stayed the same the rest of the race. My legs felt good (cramped some the last lap, but I dont think it affected my placing at all), I rode smooth on the descent, and I gave 'er all I had. The result just wasn't really what I was looking for (15th of 30). I'm overall pretty disappointed with how it turned out, but I had a good race and that's all I can say. I'll just have to focus in my training more for the next few years, and try to achieve at least a top 10 or even a top 5.
Tomorrow is the super D, which I am super psyched about, always a good time. Also the Short track which is at 330 tomorrow, but unfortunately I probably will get pulled fairly quick since I race with the normal Pros. In the words of Matt Fox: CHARGEEEEGreghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15297611823139973442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-220667059506675442.post-59473473392850149292012-06-17T17:29:00.001-07:002012-06-17T17:29:27.510-07:00Ute Valley Park Pro XCT......Was kind of a bust (for me). I'll keep it short. After a nice rest week, we headed down to CO Springs on Friday to pre ride the course. Not much to say, fast, really short, little climbing, nothing technical. They lined the pros up by UCI points, and if you didn't have any they did it random, unfortunately I got the short end of the stick and was in the very back row, but I wasn't devastated since there were so many places to pass on the course. Considering start position, I got a good start. Long story short, my legs were not feeling good on any of the short and punchy climbs, no excuses. I lacked the power I normally have on said climbs. I'm thinking that it's because I didn't do any openers the day before, but my legs just weren't havin' it. Ended up 40th of 62 starters, not to happy about it. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The eliminator was on Sunday, and was pretty cool! It was the same course as the short track (start climb, decent, really steep climb, repeat, about 3 minutes). There was 8 heats, first 2 advanced. I was in a group of 3. I sat 2nd wheel until the top of the first climb, then the third guy got antsy and took the lead. I held my position in 3rd, staying calm and collective for the final STEEP CLIMB, setting myself up so I could pass the guy ahead of me and advance. On the last corner before the steep pitch, I washed out, hard. I just got to antsy on a corner that was made up of loose fine gravel. It was over at that point. After rolling through the finish line, I was extremely frustrated with myself for awhile after that mistake. It just topped off an otherwise terrible weekend of racing. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Joel on the other hand had a great first weekend of racing this season. He found himself in FIRST place for the Cat 2 19-29. Also, in the short track he stomped the competition (almost lapping guys) with another 1st place. Time for a Cat 1 upgrade! </div>

We setup camp in the White River National Forest, and then headed to town for pre ride, the jump jam, and to just hang out before our cross country race the following morning. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Start time on Saturday wasn't till 11:45. We headed out from our campsite and rode to the start line. Looking around in the pro field, this was the most firepower in one field I have ever done. Names like JHK, Grotts, Finsterwald, Mitch Hoke, Jay Henry, and Colin Cares toed the line. I was a little nervous, but got over it pretty quick once the gun went off. The course consisted of a 7 mile loop with a steep 30 minute climb, and then a slow flowy descent (typical ski resort race). I didn't want to go out super hard, because we had to do 3 laps. A lot of people passed me the first lap, but there was a lot of double track so I wasn't worried about it. First and second lap were pretty smooth, nothing really was going on, I just rode in about a group of five guys to keep the pace up. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Coming into the last lap, there was a really off camber turn that I got a good sized gap on. I decided to attack. I was a little worried because I would have to suffer through a full 30 minute climb before I could ease up at all. I put a lot of Women SS racers in between the group of five guys behind me right before the descent, so I was pretty content with my efforts. Coming into the last climb (about 30 seconds worth) I looked back just to make sure, and saw about seven guys in a train charging hard. I had to give 'er as hard as I could, but held them off till the finish line. I ended up 28th out of 45 finishers, not great. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I've come to realize though that this is how it's going to be for the first couple years as a pro mountain biker. I had a good race, but everyone in the field is so strong, that it will take me a couple of years to get to that kind of level of racing. Clint also raced, and he did the expert field and placed 28th of 65 finishers! Things are looking good for the Pro XCT in Colorado Springs (June 16-17), and especially U23 Nationals. Next up Mountain States Cup #2 in Angel Fire! </div>Greghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15297611823139973442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-220667059506675442.post-14211650331992722692012-05-23T08:44:00.001-07:002012-05-23T08:44:40.049-07:00Mountain States Cup #1This past weekend was the Mountain States cup #1 in Salida. I've never done any "series" races outside of collegiate in Colorado, so I didn't really know what to expect with field size, competition, course terrain, etc. This was also my first pro race. Clint and myself decided only to race the XC on Sunday, so we headed down with a couple of friends on Saturday morning so we could get a pre ride lap in. The Pro/Cat 1 course was a little different than what I'm used to. It started with a 30 second fire road climb, then into about a ten minute ROAD climb straight into single track. The single track was pretty long, and was followed by another 10 minute dirt climb that was very steep and loose. After that we descended on some SUPER gnarly drops, that I would run during the race. I was really contemplating what tires to run for this race, because it had some pretty jagged rocks and I was reluctant to run my Maxxis Ikons, because the possibility of a flat. I ended up going with the Ikons, and they worked fantastic! Really happy with the way they corner and roll.<br />
<br />
The gun for my race went off at 11 am Sunday morning. The pro field was about 35 guys. It started out pretty mellow, until about the last 2 minutes of the road climb before the singletrack. I held my position best I could into the single track, and was in about the top 15. Once the really steep fire road climb came, I was getting passed. I like to think it was the higher elevation, because I'm usually alright at climbing, but I just couldn't hang on with the 2-3 guys behind me. After that I just tried to get my head together so I wouldn't kill myself on the descent. Come lap 2 I wanted to make sure I caught a drafting partner for the road climb. I pace lined with BMC development rider Jack Hinkens who dropped me a little bit right before the single track. At this point the race as pretty strung out and I just wanted to make sure I held my position. As I was trying to catch Jack in front of me, I heard his tire go pssssssssss. He didn't have any way to re inflate it, so I stopped quick to give him my Genuine Innovations Big Air (karma). After that I cruised into the finish, feeling like I was bringing up the back of the race. I ended up 19th of the 35 pros, 13 minutes off the winner Mitch Hoke. I'm fairly pleased with that result, but I think I can do better. Right now it's just lots of tune up races before the CO springs PRO XCT, Nationals, and the Missoula PRO XCT.<br />
<br />
The kits are supposedly coming in real soon, so I'll have to post some pictures of those once they arrive. Couldn't locate any pictures of me at the MSC #1, so I'll leave with a New Belgium Short Track photo.<br />

I know all of you sit by your computer all day and click the refresh button awaiting a fruitful new post, but no worries, the time has come. Mountain bike season is approaching quickly. The first <a href="http://www.wors.org/schedule/iola/">WORS</a> race for the Wisconsin folks is coming up on May 6th. As for myself, and a couple of other team members here in Fort Collins, Colorado, collegiate road racing is taking up the majority of training time in preparation for <a href="http://www.usacycling.org/2012/collegiate-road-nationals">collegiate road nationals</a>, and of course mountain bike season. Mountain bike races for this summer that the team will be appearing at include US Nationals (Ketchum, ID), some <a href="http://www.racemsc.com/">Mountain States Cups</a>, <a href="http://www.warriorscycling.com/races/">Rocky Mountain Endurance Series</a>, <a href="http://www.yourgroupride.com/local-races/40-in-the-fort">Forty in the Fort</a>, Collegiate MTB in the fall, and many others that will find themselves on the schedule. Our new kits are supposed to be delivered May 1st via <a href="http://declarecustom.com/">declare</a>, and I couldn't be more excited to see how they turn out. I'm going to start off by reviewing the new <a href="http://www.bikelugs.com/store/index.php?strWebAction=item_detail&intItemID=344">Pacenti TL28 29er rims</a>. Let me start off by saying that Kirk Pacenti is the man. Super nice guy, and really easy to work with. Anyway, this review will be more about the building process and features. I will do an actual ride review once the snow melts here in Fort Collins. I turned to these rims because I was looking for a training wheel set for the season. I decided instead of building another wheel set, I was going to look for a rim that could be used for training and racing successfully. I wanted something wider, to get the benefits of a wide rim (see pic below). <div><br /></div><div>These rims are 28mm wide, and have an inner bead width of 23mm. Comparatively to my Stan's ZTR Crests which were 24mm wide with a 21mm inner width (see picture below). Also the TL28's are eyeletted, which allows you to run higher tensions, and makes for a stronger wheel. Kirk recommends 100-110 Kgf. Below is a diagram of the rim profile. These rims come in at a average weight of 450 grams a piece, but the rims Kirk sent me were lighter than this (luck of the draw). </div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLHwG6Oddyu6WNsPMQxh2OECE6r3mTpbtYuR56QhpcalPBCZtDmEn5Z2NRqOSW3QbWiD4TSbFioQveYQq67d_HJPf2VCOebtIF4pkg6C3udWuWhAre2Wkf4oWewLWD1Ex5AhhLg0z35Hw/s1600/pacenti-TL-28.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLHwG6Oddyu6WNsPMQxh2OECE6r3mTpbtYuR56QhpcalPBCZtDmEn5Z2NRqOSW3QbWiD4TSbFioQveYQq67d_HJPf2VCOebtIF4pkg6C3udWuWhAre2Wkf4oWewLWD1Ex5AhhLg0z35Hw/s400/pacenti-TL-28.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5711285123774964834" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 288px; " /></a></div><div><br /></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFaLUR9y-D3t0rUnOGL28uQPhhJrSNqYxiAYE8qCyN1PadvpQppLMVPvAMXHvGjtFZIi0OjLQtq9QrrNmJW4V-uCTwGATGPDFHlL0p9zxp1VfmQUKeRQ6sxz7c9tKTKSUo0kia9m2WYAU/s1600/Rim+Comparison+.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFaLUR9y-D3t0rUnOGL28uQPhhJrSNqYxiAYE8qCyN1PadvpQppLMVPvAMXHvGjtFZIi0OjLQtq9QrrNmJW4V-uCTwGATGPDFHlL0p9zxp1VfmQUKeRQ6sxz7c9tKTKSUo0kia9m2WYAU/s400/Rim+Comparison+.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5711285530866669874" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px; " /></a></div><div>On the left is the TL28 rim, and on the right is my old ZTR Crest rim. The difference is obvious. </div><div><br /></div><div>I built these rims up with <a href="http://www.sapim.be/index.php?st=products&sub=spokes&category=3959&id=3340&detail=aero">CX-Sapim ray spokes</a> (best strength to weight ratio), 14mm aluminum <a href="http://www.sapim.be/index.php?st=products&sub=nipples">sapim nipples</a>, and <a href="http://chrisking.com/hubs/hbs_ISO_disc">Chris King Iso Disc Hubs</a>. I'd say my wheel building experience is moderate, as I have built somewhere around 20-30 wheel sets before. These rims built up very well, and I had little problems getting them tensioned, true, and round. After building them up, I used <a href="http://www.notubes.com/Stans-Rim-Tape-10yd-x-25mm-P155C17.aspx">25mm Stan's tape</a> to make them tubeless compatible. I threw on my <a href="http://www.maxxis.com/Bicycle/Mountain/Ardent.aspx">Maxxis ardents</a> (2.4 front, 2.25 UST rear) and pumped them up to 30 psi a piece. The rear one went up with a floor pump, but I had to use a compressor for the front one. They sealed up pretty good, but not quite as good as my old ZTR crests. I won't see how this tubeless system really works though until I get out on the trail. </div><div><br /></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXOdDIeaYoF2Oy0yNdNVvgi9AZtMUnEvEXcyW6XxfnWRWBwYk3ESqEVteRfFB328GrddSCkz4ubvjyh3IiGBFfrtiP-W00fs9zLNsf_K2Ewvxt3w9SUKQI7cvAm77PoC867-9N6euBNN0/s1600/Wide+Diagram.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXOdDIeaYoF2Oy0yNdNVvgi9AZtMUnEvEXcyW6XxfnWRWBwYk3ESqEVteRfFB328GrddSCkz4ubvjyh3IiGBFfrtiP-W00fs9zLNsf_K2Ewvxt3w9SUKQI7cvAm77PoC867-9N6euBNN0/s400/Wide+Diagram.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5711287710623503522" style="cursor: pointer; width: 381px; height: 400px; " /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>If any of you read <a href="http://velonews.competitor.com/">Velonews</a>, Nick Legan had a great explanation to why wider rims are better in the 2011 buyer's guide. In short, wider rims offer more volume which makes for a cushier ride, straighter sidewalls, which provides better cornering and less chance of you denting your rim, and a wider contact patch. The contact patch is actually shorter, but there is less rolling resistance because there's less of the tire length wise on the trail (see diagram). </div><div><br /></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoTotiorlw-Wn9pqwFQlnlzeOevdkGPyVCxn15hn5DyelNwRuAJ-jzQqN6_p4MqIODQwqUiYWBzdUfu42pO7qmnoJ1l65bcL4w983rbR1TDUS8VQFjLivyGyQ4wEfy3TSCHqbhrxUmpok/s1600/Full+Bike+.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoTotiorlw-Wn9pqwFQlnlzeOevdkGPyVCxn15hn5DyelNwRuAJ-jzQqN6_p4MqIODQwqUiYWBzdUfu42pO7qmnoJ1l65bcL4w983rbR1TDUS8VQFjLivyGyQ4wEfy3TSCHqbhrxUmpok/s400/Full+Bike+.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5711288789132203634" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px; " /></a></div><div>Here's a snapshot of them all built up. After spending sometime back home with the family, I headed back to the Colorado on the 7th. We hauled down to Tucson at 4 am in the morning and got there around 9, and unloaded the 20+ bikes out of the trailer. The week was mainly going to be comprised of mountain biking, because I can do road biking in Fort Collins any time. So The first day was to venture some of the stuff close around of the house such as gates pass, brown mountain, starr pass, etc. Besides the occasional pricker in the leg and shoe it was a success. <div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzC2HPZYtiQMpaIyvtrF9O1bc3guw9OeFYRM3yi7f-9YzME8ZNXZ-j12SAfq9N-i_nN5duc38504ZIQAlf9lHCwZCOxav-ZmSl9LU-SZZ9EzP51oSlQ2-IpFBKcLaNqtAyRO90Ao0s-5Y/s1600/IMAG0122.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzC2HPZYtiQMpaIyvtrF9O1bc3guw9OeFYRM3yi7f-9YzME8ZNXZ-j12SAfq9N-i_nN5duc38504ZIQAlf9lHCwZCOxav-ZmSl9LU-SZZ9EzP51oSlQ2-IpFBKcLaNqtAyRO90Ao0s-5Y/s400/IMAG0122.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5698392305454721410" style="cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 400px; " /></a><br /><div>Eriksen guys Matt Fox and Zach Bodhane enjoying the temperatures and sun on gates pass. Also gates pass isn't the easiest trail ever, if you're not about to crash you're not going fast enough. A lot of crashes caught on film, unfortunately not on a helmet cam that I own though. </div></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8ZJcsf6dCnQj8dqGmqp_KK9YVCp5_8RDLUGvPW4WJnKnExOzz8cV75Emwx7phiTkydhasdCGbrBbxcNk3Ewhyphenhyphen6An-AIdS_fCp5XncwzMf54bkZ8geVlQM-0yTXg_CWqsj6sWVba6tvdc/s1600/My+Crash.png" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8ZJcsf6dCnQj8dqGmqp_KK9YVCp5_8RDLUGvPW4WJnKnExOzz8cV75Emwx7phiTkydhasdCGbrBbxcNk3Ewhyphenhyphen6An-AIdS_fCp5XncwzMf54bkZ8geVlQM-0yTXg_CWqsj6sWVba6tvdc/s400/My+Crash.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5698392939938927666" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 224px; " /></a></div><div>On Tuesday we decided to climb up the Mount Lemmon trail called "la milagrosa." A lot of hike a bike was involved, but it was fun to try and climb some of the gnar. Our legs looked like mince meat because of the cacti grabbing and pulling our skin back. The descent was pretty long, somewhere in the range of an hour and a half filled with tons of drops and loose rocks, the loose rocks seemed to be to much for Fox as he merely missed a cactus. </div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivW6GMqTx_TS38WUKW9tLdgeJEEG31suoj1yJZeJkYe806VHAfCO_65zRz-Q1pe-N6jhDKpAHAJ2iMOvRfndgCsmndVf3wqxvxJaIx0-UWer9NxZIEp910G2IAh7eibeB_wQJvihvONrA/s1600/IMAG0124.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivW6GMqTx_TS38WUKW9tLdgeJEEG31suoj1yJZeJkYe806VHAfCO_65zRz-Q1pe-N6jhDKpAHAJ2iMOvRfndgCsmndVf3wqxvxJaIx0-UWer9NxZIEp910G2IAh7eibeB_wQJvihvONrA/s400/IMAG0124.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5698393982465030546" style="cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 400px; " /></a></div><div>The day was also so long we found ourselves descending in the dark. Basically stringing together certain trails on Mount Lemmon. We made it near the top but got turned around by snow. Of the five I was the only one who has never been there. We headed out late Saturday morning, and loaded up the subaru outback to the brim. Going through Glenwood Springs, Matt Fox joins the party. We headed to poison spider trail, and rode up to the top of the "portal trail". This is definitely by far one of the craziest trails I've ever done. The start of the trail has a sign that says "caution, 3 bicyclists have died on this trail." So we rode a little bit of it, but decided to hike the rest because it was really sketchy. Here's a video to show you why. The bottom part of the trail isn't as bad, just lots of gnarly drops and rocks. </div><div> <iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dzKtgVa3POoryE6FSWHsPLF4lZ6mNGLxp4NGoSdN5ptiLgVnNTTFsLckqpBeFjC9Gt7rLPCKsTCCADHxY3l2A' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><div>After grabbing a quick bit to eat, we headed to the famous slick rock trail. This trail is different than anything I have ever done. It's literally all slick rock, and you follow a white dashed line so you don't get lost. There's lots of up and down on this trail, often you can't decide what gear will work. We were running low on daylight, so we had to pick up the pace. We ended up finishing just in time to enjoy a big spaghetti dinner at the hostel. </div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJbRoh-RG991WAcBYWGqQ9bXDkhzij88hkzYBbvpwRrxDKlXooH9KJNC5LUNxQTzHIjU0WxRGN9MvgsqBkkwCIofJ-14dz9c6OtD3MAMxtCvRjK0dotQVHYgv8oMaH-j10tnXObyHeGeQ/s1600/IMAG0064.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJbRoh-RG991WAcBYWGqQ9bXDkhzij88hkzYBbvpwRrxDKlXooH9KJNC5LUNxQTzHIjU0WxRGN9MvgsqBkkwCIofJ-14dz9c6OtD3MAMxtCvRjK0dotQVHYgv8oMaH-j10tnXObyHeGeQ/s400/IMAG0064.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5680535191315953458" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 240px; " /></a></div><div>We left Moab early Tuesday Morning. No trip is complete with a ride in Fruita on the way back, though. Exhausted, we rode around four hours to complete our epic trip. Overall the trip was really awesome, and surprisingly had very few mechanicals between the five of us (one flat and one broken chain). I will definitely be going back there again. </div><div> </div><div><br /></div>Greghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15297611823139973442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-220667059506675442.post-80817725817624556652011-10-06T12:59:00.000-07:002011-10-06T13:12:54.503-07:002011 Season Coming to a Close<span class="Apple-style-span" style=" ;font-family:Helvetica;font-size:medium;">The season is coming to a close, and Team Eriksen is hoping to finish strong this weekend for the last race of the season (sheboygan)!</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" ;font-family:Helvetica;font-size:medium;"> I just wanted to give thanks to all of our awesome sponsors. Joel had two great races, and represented the kit with a near two first places. Here's his take on the weekend.....</div><div>
<br /><div><div style=" ;font-family:Helvetica;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">Rocky Mountain Criterium 2-20-2011</span></div><div style=" ;font-family:Helvetica;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">
<br /></span></div><div style=" ;font-family:Helvetica;"><p style="margin-bottom: 0in; font-style: normal; line-height: 0.19in; widows: 2; orphans: 2; font-family:Helvetica;"><span style="font-family:Helvetica;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#FFFFFF;">After racing mountain bikes all summer I decided to switch it up and partake in some local road races. I lined up at 3:25 P.M. with the rest of the Cat 4 racers after waffling back and forth all day about racing. I took my Honey Stinger Ginsting gel right before we went off since I like the energy boost and the caffeine before a race. The race got under way and was fast right from the gun. The course was a flat and fast figure eight. I tried to place my self in the top third of the field while I bided my time during the first 15 or so minutes of the race. About 15 minutes into the race I tried an attack through the start/finish straightaway. No one followed me, but in standard Cat 4 fashion racers did just enough work to pull me back to the field. After a counter attack by a friend was unsuccessful I decided to attack on the back straightaway of the course. This solo break stuck for a little more than four laps before I was pulled back to the field after winning a prime. I felt fairly spent after my effort but sat in for the rest of the race until 1 lap to go where I maneuvered myself into about 8th wheel. Several riders opened up a sprint really early in the back straightaway and I found myself boxed in and unable to respond. About 100 meters before the second to last turn I saw an opening and opened up my attack/sprint since there were already 2 riders up the road. I was able to catch 2nd place with the field hot on my tail but was able to put enough power down in my sprint to hold off the field for 2nd place. Although it wasn't a win I feel good about my performance since I stuck with my plan and my aggressive riding animated the race (</span></span><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#FFFFFF;">got some attention for our sponsors!</span></span></b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#FFFFFF;">). It was nice to represent Team Eriksen Cycles on the road and make a few dollars and win a lot of ride food in a prime.</span></span></span></p><div><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Helvetica;"><span style="font-size:100%;">

<br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" line-height: 22px; font-family:Helvetica;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">I decided to race the Rist Canyon Road Race even though I was sick since I felt that I had a legitimate chance at winning and had wanted to since the beginning of summer. I registered at the last minute (literally) and tried to get a decent nights sleep. Morning came and I toed the line with 61 other Cat 4/5 racers. We went off to a neutral start through Fort Collins and arrived at the first climb of the 66.8 mile race (with 6,114 feet of climbing!); the infamous Rist Canyon climb. I had intended to do a little work and drive the pace up Rist to force a selection, but I decided against this when I noticed a decent selection was being made without working too hard. I made sure to stay on top of my nutrition with lots of water/sports drink and my Honey Stinger Gels and Chews on the ~10 mile climb. I went over the top of Rist about 10-15 seconds behind the first rider with another rider hot on my tail. We worked together to pull the 1st place rider back while descending through the back side of Rist and Stove Prarie. Once we pulled that rider back I convinced both riders to work with me to put a gap on the field. We were pulling turns but I never felt that we were going fast enough to hold off the field. At about 38 miles into the race the rider that had went over the top of Rist first was spent and dropped off of my wheel and it was just myself and the other remaining rider as the lead group. About two or so miles later on a small kicker climb I noticed I was riding my breakaway partner off my wheel. I felt strong and knew that he would hold me back if I were to wait for him so I upped the pace and rode him off my wheel. At this point I knew that if I wanted a win I would have to give everything I had to stay away from the field since there were 25 miles left. I put my chin down on my stem and my hands as close to my face as possible and rode all the flat sections and false flat sections close to threshold. There were several short but not insignificant climbs left in Horsetooth Reservoir which I was fairly worried about since I felt like I might start cramping from going so hard for so long. I tried to pace myself up each climb as best I could and get as aero as possible on each descent so I could rest while I was spun out. I arrived at the last real climb of the day, Bingham Hill, and looked back to see if the field was bearing down on me but I saw nothing. I still wasn't ready to let up since there were still several miles of roughly flat road with a decent headwind left. Again, I got as aero as possible and gave it full gas, which was becoming hard to do since my arms were getting especially tired from trying to be aero for so long. I made the last turn into town and still saw no one behind me but I decided to keep my head down and hammer anyways for the few miles left to the finish section. The finish was essentially a reverse lap on yesterday's crit course and when I turned onto the course it started to sink in that I was really going to win. I turned the last turn and was glad to hear that Greg and a few other people I knew were there cheering. After zipping up my Eriksen Cycles jersey I sat up and spread my arms out to celebrate. It felt good to win a legitimate road race, but it felt even better to come in solo like I have watched some of my heroes do. After the results were posted I found out I had finished the race in 3:07:xx and had the second place rider gapped by 3:51. I believe after this weekend I am going to be requesting an upgrade to Cat 3 in both USAC and ACA. A big thanks to our sponsors for all the support, each of you make life as a bike racer/rider easier!</span></span></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeWnKSyRowejFmcy_HWWJXIT0i8n8HHEItAQo3ZjPf67jbs53fR8CY0Pj6VW2L8Bc74Ebagz2FaQCl9UIMWEZHpE0Wpq8A296iXuQG7jBxqLBY032CVU8SCULUSU_K67eGQ8JLe2hKERk/s1600/DSC_0011.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeWnKSyRowejFmcy_HWWJXIT0i8n8HHEItAQo3ZjPf67jbs53fR8CY0Pj6VW2L8Bc74Ebagz2FaQCl9UIMWEZHpE0Wpq8A296iXuQG7jBxqLBY032CVU8SCULUSU_K67eGQ8JLe2hKERk/s400/DSC_0011.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5643724718330304642" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px; " /></a></div><div>

I tookk 109th place overall and 2nd in my agegroup had no problems and the course was very dry. Hitting speeds of 35 miles per hour at the start as soon as they hit the first part the trail it was a wall of red dust. The trail was sandy with a few tecnical climbs. The most technical was a hill that was all loose rocks called misory hill that was un climable. Overall I felt real good the entire time, until the last mile where I had a few cramps. I ended up lining up about halfway back in the first timers group which was at the back of the 2000 person field.
<br />
<br />The first climb up St. Kevins is fairly steep but short. It was frustrating being at the back of the field going up that because I couldn't go my pace and had to come to a complete stop and track stand multiple times going up the climb due to how bottlenecked it got. I took every chance I could to move up and ended up sliding up a couple hundred places by the top of the climb.
<br />
<br />My legs felt really good and I was pacing myself possibly a little too much all the way until the 50 mile point at the top of the columbine mine climb, which is the signature climb in leadville (and it is a beast). Columbine goes up from about 9000 ft and tops out at roughly 13000 ft. I hit that climb hard and moved up a lotttt more places. It felt really good to basically be constantly passing people for the hour and 40 minutes I was climbing.
<br />
<br />I descended columbine a little slower than I would have wanted due to all the traffic and headed back for the last 40 miles. There was a pretty decent headwind coming back from twin lakes to the bottom of the pipeline but I still negatively split my time out by about 20 minutes. I had saved a lot of energy for the 2nd 50 miles knowing how much harder they are than the first 50.
<br />
<br />I ended up flying through the last 20 miles of the race. I was incredibly motivated because I knew I was right on the edge of going sub nine, and I had paced myself very well (probably too much) and slacking even a little bit on the last 2 climbs in the race would put me a few minutes over 9 hours. with 5 miles to go and about 20 minutes left before nine hours I just put my head down and suffered all the way to the finish and ended up finishing in 8:55.
<br />
<br />I was super pumped to go under 9 and completely out of gas. That race is the sort of hard that you really can't understand until you do it. I have never done anything like it, but the feeling from finishing under my goal of 9 hours made it all worth it.</span></span>

The whole time I felt super lethargic (Probably had something to do with the 24 hours of driving). But overall fun course, ended up a little bit slack of mid pack. Cameron Ended up 5th in the cat 1 juniors, I'm sure feeling pretty tired just like me. And chris ended up with his best finish of the year! Finishing 3rd in his age and 32nd overall! Not to shabby Chris. A little short on the pics of them. Good job to the Nats squad hanging in there on near no sleep. Next stop Cam-Rock Wors #7! </div><div><br /></div><div><br /><div><br /></div></div>Greghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15297611823139973442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-220667059506675442.post-51160659371686109692011-07-17T16:06:00.000-07:002011-07-17T16:20:03.523-07:00Small Nationals ReportI thought I should give a quick Nationals update! Chris and Dakota both raced the XC Thursday, finishing 13th and 7th, respectively in the cat 2 19-24. Cameron had an off race and finished 45th in the cat 1 juniors 17-18. Dakota and I both rode the gondola up to the super D this morning in search of stars and stripes! Dakota's finish is unknown, but more importantly he won the shimano speed trap having the fastest speed of 42 MPH winning the new shimano XT brakes! Which he desperately needed. I didn't get the speed trap win, but did get the stars and stripes for cat 1 men 19-29 super D! Thanks fox for teaching me how to go downhill like a man. I was the only one doing short track, and took 4th in the cat 1 19-29. All week the bike worked great, and we will be traveling through colorado this coming week, and then off to the alterra coffee bean classic!<div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjEnKTPOGmdlfdPYFKG7sFNRUsBg9yLMZzvkp02Sq_TUpsjQ3juMO7fEDiLWZy-pTvlkYvg1GnJTgl0ca-v1KeN7prg87fefoX53zfz_csDGgbDx4cN2lTW_6rMtYzYPKWWgukC60ow-E/s1600/DSC_0028.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjEnKTPOGmdlfdPYFKG7sFNRUsBg9yLMZzvkp02Sq_TUpsjQ3juMO7fEDiLWZy-pTvlkYvg1GnJTgl0ca-v1KeN7prg87fefoX53zfz_csDGgbDx4cN2lTW_6rMtYzYPKWWgukC60ow-E/s400/DSC_0028.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5630464900829003906" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px; " /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiy6CQV7BosYsvAgdinxK1mqc13sziBX8bri_lLxQ1v0nJs8dy5li8pJlAbxPDqjvHw5lbUC99Gkl0-hxfvyBhWVv3gROPy-Gdw_hQIXXfGXuhqpGVVIMlK5ecl2e8oaqYZzCF4T4eC10/s1600/DSC_0017.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiy6CQV7BosYsvAgdinxK1mqc13sziBX8bri_lLxQ1v0nJs8dy5li8pJlAbxPDqjvHw5lbUC99Gkl0-hxfvyBhWVv3gROPy-Gdw_hQIXXfGXuhqpGVVIMlK5ecl2e8oaqYZzCF4T4eC10/s400/DSC_0017.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5630464893221828434" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px; " /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheU15d9-aNUSF3Fr45GlvfciQ3vL2_tO_hcLpJgf3aNC1ZLlJKT4yuQ6vnF0kCjY_KmDhENcPM2kaHikzml-7KTENkymuHyzRIXexRyvCuWRH6IAhWtgNX_qqI0pn39BTRqzpFd1IgXeo/s1600/DSC_0016.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheU15d9-aNUSF3Fr45GlvfciQ3vL2_tO_hcLpJgf3aNC1ZLlJKT4yuQ6vnF0kCjY_KmDhENcPM2kaHikzml-7KTENkymuHyzRIXexRyvCuWRH6IAhWtgNX_qqI0pn39BTRqzpFd1IgXeo/s400/DSC_0016.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5630464896158497714" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px; " /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_e9YLeL_VWtCxPd52YGXsajzBMEJqjGIk-yAqttcbCuVkOaKzAUq2hTtwJlwg8pe6QT5rSCWMHhMQcoyYP5JL2HqsvgR6VO88Z-bdwXHLekgjsvn2MDhYYBylEMJUHTsUwHRIdNrEYqg/s1600/DSC_0003.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_e9YLeL_VWtCxPd52YGXsajzBMEJqjGIk-yAqttcbCuVkOaKzAUq2hTtwJlwg8pe6QT5rSCWMHhMQcoyYP5JL2HqsvgR6VO88Z-bdwXHLekgjsvn2MDhYYBylEMJUHTsUwHRIdNrEYqg/s400/DSC_0003.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5630464887316998498" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px; " /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiieTNxV9Caz43odvbupdJlUJPwXgUzRusQiIdesMiMc1sv46Q8GBBIi5hLJpC_5zoZL9OiUjVSI7LG7sQlZsphL08FYQwx56vycZ36RxU4ZK-zmqbbbccKPZTZlsU9Ssh2MPtGrBJ6-tc/s1600/Dakota+sprint.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiieTNxV9Caz43odvbupdJlUJPwXgUzRusQiIdesMiMc1sv46Q8GBBIi5hLJpC_5zoZL9OiUjVSI7LG7sQlZsphL08FYQwx56vycZ36RxU4ZK-zmqbbbccKPZTZlsU9Ssh2MPtGrBJ6-tc/s400/Dakota+sprint.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5630464887091767378" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px; " /></a><br /> <div><br /></div></div>Greghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15297611823139973442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-220667059506675442.post-58461664149743130522011-06-28T13:02:00.000-07:002011-06-28T14:29:42.380-07:00Subaru Cup Pro XCT WORS #4Big weekend for Team Eriksen. The whole team was there in full force, even all three colorado members. I'm gonna try to keep it short, because It could get lengthy. It started off with the arrival of fox, joel, and bodhane. We headed up friday afternoon to pre ride the course. We set up camp and headed out on a lap or two. The course was great with a good mix of technical decents, climbs, and open trail for passing. After practicing all of the bit more "sporty" lines with fox and bodhane on the course, and one blown tire later for bodhane, we were ready to race the xc the next morning. <div>Started off early with our cat 2 racers at 8:00 and 9:30 a.m </div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFNM3YBJxW-d8dTK9G4NjXjtDw5Qu4IH0er_E75SJl5PCDIdv-HzwnMo0JA8Z9_9wvNoesEfW6ifW9aPJ_29pBeKchDqOCJUPmdmo-_RbAZsQ-YKZL61fMuAXTGa9Wl2YXXK6RcHRuWuQ/s1600/DSC_0015.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFNM3YBJxW-d8dTK9G4NjXjtDw5Qu4IH0er_E75SJl5PCDIdv-HzwnMo0JA8Z9_9wvNoesEfW6ifW9aPJ_29pBeKchDqOCJUPmdmo-_RbAZsQ-YKZL61fMuAXTGa9Wl2YXXK6RcHRuWuQ/s400/DSC_0015.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5623376535542970674" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px; " /></a></div><div>Picture of Todd passing somebody with his "gameface" on. 7th in age group for the xc, and no participation in the Short track or super D the day after.</div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS2kxo2OuNLRWctCL9tDKOPXtbKFV5keNfQaqtDx5UZhRBuYkXoys0GSB62jkkubkTVgYT29sQndem8wEzwW_Y4wrE7hZlkiflf8mbLSXJNOhKsXi7Aa_0OPiT915ZY5KYohg4sdbDKM8/s1600/DSC_0014.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS2kxo2OuNLRWctCL9tDKOPXtbKFV5keNfQaqtDx5UZhRBuYkXoys0GSB62jkkubkTVgYT29sQndem8wEzwW_Y4wrE7hZlkiflf8mbLSXJNOhKsXi7Aa_0OPiT915ZY5KYohg4sdbDKM8/s400/DSC_0014.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5623377062207850018" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px; " /></a></div><div>Matt P. had a bit of a tough race, puking on one of the laps, but still sounded like he had an overall good time during the race weekend. </div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSXnGOaYyREitQO5lQwjivQ8UmqcdAKJ0nRT4yhUnw3dJ50z94SUozwLqyI1JTqF4RnwxATYT4frLmT6quGAmTBVXXp4nDNnRRNhfc5pIF4nkcwUK5ge4g9uhmNPrxV0wr7wb7LtWPeaM/s1600/DSC_0068.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSXnGOaYyREitQO5lQwjivQ8UmqcdAKJ0nRT4yhUnw3dJ50z94SUozwLqyI1JTqF4RnwxATYT4frLmT6quGAmTBVXXp4nDNnRRNhfc5pIF4nkcwUK5ge4g9uhmNPrxV0wr7wb7LtWPeaM/s400/DSC_0068.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5623378196060200194" style="cursor: pointer; width: 266px; height: 400px; " /></a></div><div>Joel straight up represented grabbing 4th out of 26 in the cat 2 25-29 XC race, and 11th overall. ST was O.K., slipping a pedal at the start and getting caught up in a crash in front of me. Still 9th in age and 16th overall. Fox had a great ST race taking 3rd in age and 9th overall!! About 75 Cat 1/pro riders tipped the line. The start was all open fire roads so it was very fast, also throw in a few climbs for good measure. I didn't get the best start but I knew things would break up on the climbs. I fell into the typical group I'd usually ride with (the veteran elite riders John shull, John lirette, Matt Millin, and a few others). Drafting was a big deal at this race so I could not get away because of the pace lines from the rolling double track. Last lap I decided to launch an attack on the group and hopefully hold it till the finish. There was one extremely fresh cut bumpy part and I knew if I'd get there first I could accomplish a successful attack. Sticking it to the finish I ended up 1st in the 19-23 age group and 26th overall. Same overall result as last race! Then once the climbing is done there is a super rough rocky descent with tree roots all over. A classic Colorado ski resort race. I found out the morning of the race that they had changed the course a lot to make the laps shorter and cut off the top parts of the course because there was still lots of snow on top of the mountain. I drove up there in the morning with papa and really wasn't expecting much from my performance because my legs felt pretty awful, and I was at the end of a 3 week build. I ended up getting to preride a lap as my warm up, and I was liking the course. Also this race has some of the biggest cash prizes in American mountain biking in the Pro and Expert Fields so it always attracts the best riders. The race started on a long section of fire road so I wasn't super concerned about starting really fast.I had a decent start and wanted to keep up a good pace. The first lap was pretty fast and I ended up staying in the middleish of the field despite pushing myself a little bit past where I wanted. The second lap I slowed up a bit and knew that I needed to conserve some on the fire road sections to have a good 3rd lap. Despite slowing up I actually still found myself making up about 6 or 7 places, because some people just went out way too fast and blew sky high on the 2nd lap. On the fire road before the steep singletrack section of climbing I knew I needed a boost so I took one of my </span></span></span><a href="http://www.honeystinger.com/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'times new roman';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;">Honey Stinger</span></span></span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'times new roman';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;"> gels. I was way more focused on nutrition this race making sure I did about half a bottle a lap and a Honey Stinger gel on the 2nd lap and the beginning of the 3rd lap.<br /><br /></span></span></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 14px; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'times new roman';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;">I really felt good starting the 3rd lap, but didn't really know where I stood in the field. My friend Danny ended up catching me on the climb which really lit the competitive fire I needed to really push myself on that last lap. Danny won Cat 2 national championships last year in Granby, and is a strong climber so seeing him in front of me was good motivation, plus hes just a fun guy to race with. I ended up really making my move on the super steep section of the course. On the 3rd lap there were a lot of people walking it, and some guys were sitting in the creek on the side of the climb cooling off. I ended up attacking on the really steep section (30%+ gradient) and putting a little bit of a gap inbetween Danny and I. The technical descents on this course were good for me and I was able to make up a lot of time on them usually. I was a little worried because one of my fingers is jammed pretty bad and I couldn't bend it quite right to grip the bars, but I have the </span></span></span><a href="http://www.ergon-bike.com/us/en/home"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'times new roman';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;">Ergon</span></span></span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'times new roman';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;"> GX1 grips so they helped a lot. I finished not knowing exactly where I was, but knowing that I had at least been able to stay away from Danny. I got 25th out of 60 or so. Not a bad race for me. Knowing how stacked this field was. More importantly I was happy that I had stuck to my game plan of racing my race, and pacing myself better than I have in the past.</span></span></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 14px; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'times new roman';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;"><br /></span></span></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 14px; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'times new roman';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;">Matt Fox Angel Fire Race Report........</span></span></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 14px; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'times new roman';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;"><br /></span></span></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 14px; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: normal; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'times new roman';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;">I arrived in Angel Fire pumped for some serious suffering after 6 hours of driving while listening to Lance's book "It's Not About the Bike". Got registered for cat2 xc, and started to pre-ride the course. It's a painful start, straight up the mountain, then continues to wind up the resort on fire road and single track getting steeper and more technical towards the top. It's a brutally painful climb if you go to hard from the start. The descent is AWESOME, with flowing single-track that winds down through the trees, not very technical but favors good cornering abilities, and gives the legs a good rest before the next lap.</span></span></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: normal; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'times new roman';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;"><br /></span></span></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: normal; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'times new roman';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;"><br /></span></span></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: normal; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'times new roman';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;">On Saturday I watched the Pro and Cat1 race at 8am and gave a bottle feed to my buddy who was racing cat1. I had to wait till 2pm for my race. Finally it was race time. I had planed on feeling out the field on the first lap, but 5min into the race the pace slowed down to a crawl and everyone was panting around me, so I took off. I spent the rest of the race looking over my shoulder hoping no one was catching me, because i felt crappy. I ended up winning by over 17min though! I think I'm ready for Cat1, but I still need another start before they'll give it to me... I want to race cat 1 at Subaru Cup with Greg! He really wants to do some Fox soul crushing on his home turf and I think I'm ready for the challenge!! Yesterday morning cameron and I met up at greenbush around 7:00 to prepare for the 8:00 start. But no 12 hour race is complete without a monster breakfast! 4 giant pancakes, a pot of french press, yogurt, and as many calories as I could eat. I started out the Lemans start, and was first into the single track. To make a long race report short; Cameron and I switched off about every lap, and the laps were running around 50 minutes, the conditions were humid and slick with the course being pretty rocky and rough, we made very sloppy transitions between laps, and the closest team was about 10 minutes back throughout the race. Overall it was very fun and no amount of chamois butter is enough for that course to keep my bottom nice!<div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiYO9UOYMhnHXMHfR2o4OU9WGajpdg_seMzid26ULh7lZw4Sryo7VfxL2mFseP0hv3Sayk2esOypa4KuO4SYFNNARM1aaD3qeSJYD-S2ARN3X5NnB0XmtqWjcJMyN4wK6ttcYxlBwye2I/s1600/DSC_0010.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiYO9UOYMhnHXMHfR2o4OU9WGajpdg_seMzid26ULh7lZw4Sryo7VfxL2mFseP0hv3Sayk2esOypa4KuO4SYFNNARM1aaD3qeSJYD-S2ARN3X5NnB0XmtqWjcJMyN4wK6ttcYxlBwye2I/s400/DSC_0010.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5612158190360683698" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px; " /></a><br /> <div><br /></div></div>Greghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15297611823139973442noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-220667059506675442.post-1616850966007202142011-05-23T19:44:00.000-07:002011-05-23T20:13:16.531-07:00WORS #2 Race ReportThe first race of my WORS season started this past weekend, and the weather was all over the place. Saturday we arrived and me, Cameron, and the Dales began our pre ride. It started pouring towards the end of the lap, and the sand was grinding in our gears and brakes. The course was O.K., just extremely bumpy, but it was sandy enough to hold out the rain. Race day it was all blue sky and sunny. Our cat 2 sport racers Matt P. and Todd started off the day. Matt P. had an improved race from Iola, finishing 14th in age. Todd finished 18th in the 30-34 age group. <div> </div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEsRPMhWGDuB3NajF5H8Jws8P_XaoaK3j13613rn833Nf2rZK8mZ7b-kdkdJxuAGTWNOkOx6u5Q0MLZtR68eEMyZM-JIijoD-B7ky9uRnBWRjSPddTe2ZTRUlskBpO3Jr1wdyTGz5m4dQ/s1600/DSC_0076.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEsRPMhWGDuB3NajF5H8Jws8P_XaoaK3j13613rn833Nf2rZK8mZ7b-kdkdJxuAGTWNOkOx6u5Q0MLZtR68eEMyZM-JIijoD-B7ky9uRnBWRjSPddTe2ZTRUlskBpO3Jr1wdyTGz5m4dQ/s400/DSC_0076.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610110362080605442" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px; " /></a></div><div>Matt P. lapping through</div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXROierjVaiKGzg9FhljyBafKI5hGQKcB4AXPL5-vJvvG-mfNSqqGJuaNLVhAsnlB_NfeyGtCTMEdZbTIzctr_3ef3aCQI4MiJLjRPtcG3yszuhZBrWk0TIhEJj_RayFgNGGi4aDIstrU/s1600/DSC_0089.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXROierjVaiKGzg9FhljyBafKI5hGQKcB4AXPL5-vJvvG-mfNSqqGJuaNLVhAsnlB_NfeyGtCTMEdZbTIzctr_3ef3aCQI4MiJLjRPtcG3yszuhZBrWk0TIhEJj_RayFgNGGi4aDIstrU/s400/DSC_0089.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610110875489762850" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px; " /></a></div><div>Cameron passing a much needed bottle to todd</div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmD1ityOOzACkJMUg-aifX8uQPXNTGxR5Vf5GOk-5OvzOaARJmUzl8Uvj98yR1Y5OEBImfQh3Kvbkz5W9382CXfFEg_fwYpd3_AREzIz5rP7jyPp400j1KUO-0vLV3GFvOenJ2g73Kc9I/s1600/DSC_0058.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmD1ityOOzACkJMUg-aifX8uQPXNTGxR5Vf5GOk-5OvzOaARJmUzl8Uvj98yR1Y5OEBImfQh3Kvbkz5W9382CXfFEg_fwYpd3_AREzIz5rP7jyPp400j1KUO-0vLV3GFvOenJ2g73Kc9I/s400/DSC_0058.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610111298998699202" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px; " /></a></div><div>The afternoon races were on and the weather was holding up. The dales, chris, cameron, and myself suited up and began to warm up. Unfortunately I can't snap any pics of these guys because they start right after me. Dakota took 1st in the Cat 2 Comp 19-23 age group, outedging the competition by 5 minutes. Matt Dale took 3rd in his very competitive age group of 13, and 19th overall in comp (he beat his son, dakota). Cameron took 7th in the Junior elite category, and had an overall good race, and I'm sure it wasn't easy on his rigid 29er. Chris took 4th in the 19-23 cat 2 age group. Overall an O.K. weekend for the team, but still room for improvement. Shout-out to the Dales for two very solid results, and Cameron for sticking it out in a very difficult category. </div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVByX0p61rTBT6sCJttkbVdKnaY39ZIRh7JWbLe8b8IfxJtFpNE-oE_5p7_dukbqGPr7M9oT5FrcnnCVZY4QS5WX_ODfe61egY04mftpcKqkNvEtayjG4vuOd99Uo7cVP82nqkTWwFJ-s/s1600/Wors+%25232+me.png" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVByX0p61rTBT6sCJttkbVdKnaY39ZIRh7JWbLe8b8IfxJtFpNE-oE_5p7_dukbqGPr7M9oT5FrcnnCVZY4QS5WX_ODfe61egY04mftpcKqkNvEtayjG4vuOd99Uo7cVP82nqkTWwFJ-s/s400/Wors+%25232+me.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610113409463778098" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 260px; " /></a></div><div>My first elite race went well. I tipped the line, not really knowing what to except, and just thinking how weird it was that I am racing with all these fast guys that I had once looked up upon like gods! The race started off pretty slow because the ability to draft was there. I went out a bit hard the first lap, which got me in a bit of trouble later. I missed my bottle hand off on lap 2, and the race being an 8 mile loop I knew I'd be feeling it. The third loop was miserable as I had very little energy. I used it to recover so I could push it on the fourth and final lap. I took one of my <a href="http://www.honeystinger.com/">Honey Stinger</a> gels and started to charge. The last lap it started to pour, lightning, and thunder. The last mile I caught four elite guys and stuck it to the finish. I ended up being 26th overall of about 60 starters. I'm happy with the result but did make a lot of "noob" mistakes during the race, like the bottle hand off and some crashes. Afterwards my arms were done, I couldn't move my back do to the extreme bumpiness of the course, and lets just say I didn't use enough chamois butter. Next race Cameron and I duo it out 12 hour style at <a href="http://wemseries.com/">Greenbush</a>! </div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfskLLSPJLgRYqF8p3VcdmXYHESCXuwOoDvAS24kCNfy0ay5nThToJ0VZsDW2_bBC7_yGS_N_yTg3I4U8O-BODJEzEVINqQGWsZe229oz4cmFf0IyRJf9kCn2V6GZItfMV2BxhjK9t_j0/s1600/Screen+shot+2011-05-23+at+10.07.33+AM.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfskLLSPJLgRYqF8p3VcdmXYHESCXuwOoDvAS24kCNfy0ay5nThToJ0VZsDW2_bBC7_yGS_N_yTg3I4U8O-BODJEzEVINqQGWsZe229oz4cmFf0IyRJf9kCn2V6GZItfMV2BxhjK9t_j0/s400/Screen+shot+2011-05-23+at+10.07.33+AM.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610115187688723506" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 275px; " /></a></div><div>So many <a href="http://www.kenteriksen.com/">Eriksens</a>! </div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Greghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15297611823139973442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-220667059506675442.post-91002308859503627462011-05-09T07:43:00.000-07:002011-05-09T08:05:44.335-07:00Eriksen Cycles Debut- Front Range 60 Race Report<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ7jnT01tUFKiFGjtrgXSZczGWpN9nFny1mDvhx3wSyaYFnyhIfaWmYiQo2oKwE_sxcb2uIAT4Z67w8cNGDcfLDYil1YRWeO5y3Uv6gBqjsAhzzNMdLqFI9E4rpOl6S9_JlRQl8jvRxOA/s1600/DSC_0002.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ7jnT01tUFKiFGjtrgXSZczGWpN9nFny1mDvhx3wSyaYFnyhIfaWmYiQo2oKwE_sxcb2uIAT4Z67w8cNGDcfLDYil1YRWeO5y3Uv6gBqjsAhzzNMdLqFI9E4rpOl6S9_JlRQl8jvRxOA/s400/DSC_0002.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5604730022852118226" /></a><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ7jnT01tUFKiFGjtrgXSZczGWpN9nFny1mDvhx3wSyaYFnyhIfaWmYiQo2oKwE_sxcb2uIAT4Z67w8cNGDcfLDYil1YRWeO5y3Uv6gBqjsAhzzNMdLqFI9E4rpOl6S9_JlRQl8jvRxOA/s1600/DSC_0002.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"></a>Will getting ready for the Marathon (60 miler) at 8:00 A.M.<br /><div><br /></div>Friday Afternoon the Colorado squad of Eriksen Cycles headed down to Lakewood for the front range 60, part of the <a href="http://www.warriorscycling.com/events/rocky-mountain-endurance-series.php">Rocky Mountain Endurance Series</a>. Camped overnight Friday night, ate some qdoba, had a blast around the campfire, etc. Saturday morning was race day. The temperature was rising quickly from 50 to 60 to 70, and eventually was well over 80. Two O'clock three of us tipped the line for the 19-29 half marathon (30 miles). They didn't have categories so all the pros, experts, and sport racers would be racing as one field. Also I think our wave was combined with the 30-39. The start there was a slight road than a small gravel climb to break the field up a bit. I had a decent start, just trying to hold on to the group of five leaders, and of course Matt Fox.<div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieZbNARKt6IRWNXNNaAQ451EeYJH1CMO-NTb2u1C3xsww-ilYVVIVoBIC57AqlcxOKyB6dJWryWvbHCjmP2lclSm1QSDkjcDQOU99LyEOI5Ayv3P6Po32jHU8LKaH6nNje71NVmIhPDSc/s1600/Start.png" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieZbNARKt6IRWNXNNaAQ451EeYJH1CMO-NTb2u1C3xsww-ilYVVIVoBIC57AqlcxOKyB6dJWryWvbHCjmP2lclSm1QSDkjcDQOU99LyEOI5Ayv3P6Po32jHU8LKaH6nNje71NVmIhPDSc/s400/Start.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5604728765055422226" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 263px; " /></a></div><div>After the small gravel climb I was hanging on by a thread to the lead group. The first lap was SCORCHING hot, and the lap traffic was like any other bigger mountain bike race. I couldn't hold Foxs' wheel and the lead group of five or so slowly slipped away. Essentially the rest of the race was dedicated to chasing, but never was in sight of the leaders. I ended up seventh on the day out of a field of twenty, and 15th overall out of a field of 110. Matt Fox took fourth place, and I'm sure is looking forward to a strong racing season on Team Eriksen Cycles. I'm overall pleased with my result for the first mountain bike race of the season, as the six in front of me were all professionals except Matt.</div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnwqtUVLaQoHBngPsU8w5dAV5vbYuI44gVxGSeDbDbxdNR6nPsOi2GUo0o4RLU1zVAiKZbuk6FbDP4PRv2oi7jlCtJGc7bK-HBOyB5ZFAGZYmpKXj00-cWT7vG-j70kuewQ7YCJlRs8_g/s1600/Joel.png" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnwqtUVLaQoHBngPsU8w5dAV5vbYuI44gVxGSeDbDbxdNR6nPsOi2GUo0o4RLU1zVAiKZbuk6FbDP4PRv2oi7jlCtJGc7bK-HBOyB5ZFAGZYmpKXj00-cWT7vG-j70kuewQ7YCJlRs8_g/s400/Joel.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5604730566029869282" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px; " /></a></div><div>Joel had a great first mountain bike race of the season, finishing 12th in age group, and 46th overall. Getting some miles in before the race season begins. When I go back to Wisconsin I'm gonna have to get used to rolling singletrack, cause right now I'm used to just climbing and descending! 40 Hands of <a href="http://drunkcyclist.com/">Drunk Cyclist</a> provided the pictures. Do you see what he's riding? A rigid single speed, in the foothills, fricken crazy, but he pulls it off. Race reports should come in soon as well as a team picture hopefully. A lot of guys have there Eriksens (I think seven or something?). Stay tuned for more fruitful updates. <div> </div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9P8A50eW8T3JunPRa4hN9NHW8ZzynyQZelBa4teRY2Y5hVrvGnRKyAnXHL-EqJhvBhqDTYTCg9Lki8Wuq1i2rOZMraWTK5AM5w608YWaW2LEtknjC2jgULnR_2BEmt2nyggGc8zqSmQc/s1600/P7020006.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9P8A50eW8T3JunPRa4hN9NHW8ZzynyQZelBa4teRY2Y5hVrvGnRKyAnXHL-EqJhvBhqDTYTCg9Lki8Wuq1i2rOZMraWTK5AM5w608YWaW2LEtknjC2jgULnR_2BEmt2nyggGc8zqSmQc/s400/P7020006.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5600841199742044354" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px; " /></a></div><div>Fox never brings his own food, he had to bum a pbj from me</div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9P8A50eW8T3JunPRa4hN9NHW8ZzynyQZelBa4teRY2Y5hVrvGnRKyAnXHL-EqJhvBhqDTYTCg9Lki8Wuq1i2rOZMraWTK5AM5w608YWaW2LEtknjC2jgULnR_2BEmt2nyggGc8zqSmQc/s1600/P7020006.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbWjbxS5IyYJnwBOii2CS_L6op2GkF6QjY_mnNbmm4XF612ojXtz8beUReEfgBK9OtN9j8illOdCGIG-7tkKFBIFCkS0d2Dm1BsqnHqUpZiy2p3bzTIU0cNBU5KyKvg9JyIr28HLm0aes/s1600/P7020004.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbWjbxS5IyYJnwBOii2CS_L6op2GkF6QjY_mnNbmm4XF612ojXtz8beUReEfgBK9OtN9j8illOdCGIG-7tkKFBIFCkS0d2Dm1BsqnHqUpZiy2p3bzTIU0cNBU5KyKvg9JyIr28HLm0aes/s400/P7020004.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5600841196754392066" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px; " /></a></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbWjbxS5IyYJnwBOii2CS_L6op2GkF6QjY_mnNbmm4XF612ojXtz8beUReEfgBK9OtN9j8illOdCGIG-7tkKFBIFCkS0d2Dm1BsqnHqUpZiy2p3bzTIU0cNBU5KyKvg9JyIr28HLm0aes/s1600/P7020004.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"></a>Nice view!<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF1dNwS3xU1jiLT1xoXKYyKylrPln8XujGWHZTQBEtLIx9LoA5UCCzgbOi_18UxFm-gB5bimET8tX1DdBqqLK-sGnaHvI5tASfFklkHMhNc0yrv9ZsuXYUeeqVfWdjK3KxTL1airR4qg4/s1600/DSCN0479.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF1dNwS3xU1jiLT1xoXKYyKylrPln8XujGWHZTQBEtLIx9LoA5UCCzgbOi_18UxFm-gB5bimET8tX1DdBqqLK-sGnaHvI5tASfFklkHMhNc0yrv9ZsuXYUeeqVfWdjK3KxTL1airR4qg4/s400/DSCN0479.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5600841192588787922" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px; " /></a></div><div>A whole month of working on my farmers tan could be jeopardized from today, in part to the easy street wheat sleeveless jersey. </div>Greghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15297611823139973442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-220667059506675442.post-76192912683318850202011-04-23T19:05:00.000-07:002011-04-23T19:24:16.380-07:00Epic ride material.....After not going off racing this weekend, I had to decide what I wanted to do on the bike. I was thinking about doing the first of the <a href="http://www.warriorscycling.com/events/rocky-mountain-endurance-series.php">Rocky Mountain Endurance Series </a> but that idea tanked when I heard how much it was. It's not in my interest to talk about this but 80 dollars to race my bike, especially in a series that's just getting started has to high of a price tag. I feel if the price would be lower they would attract a lot more racers, like myself! So with that out of the question I decided just to do a long road ride. Not without an "epic" breakfast at a friends house first though.<div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfTJMVixSp-1ETtzDGe556sReihqFucLMFI_e_0htxqrnMw0XLRFfE2Kh3BKZY0TyHh8zNFE4AQb8QfxI7litt_L2ixBCgf5QATVrCw13o-eQgkaAsHJT7z6gGq6WBEXvCZU08DY1ncN0/s1600/6t9tc.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfTJMVixSp-1ETtzDGe556sReihqFucLMFI_e_0htxqrnMw0XLRFfE2Kh3BKZY0TyHh8zNFE4AQb8QfxI7litt_L2ixBCgf5QATVrCw13o-eQgkaAsHJT7z6gGq6WBEXvCZU08DY1ncN0/s400/6t9tc.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598968175415520546" style="cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px; " /></a></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfTJMVixSp-1ETtzDGe556sReihqFucLMFI_e_0htxqrnMw0XLRFfE2Kh3BKZY0TyHh8zNFE4AQb8QfxI7litt_L2ixBCgf5QATVrCw13o-eQgkaAsHJT7z6gGq6WBEXvCZU08DY1ncN0/s1600/6t9tc.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"></a>Pancakes, Cinamon Buns, espresso, french press, bacon, strawberries, blackberries, epic sauce</div><div><div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimmFN_q5G3EnZSrd-rXRnD7VdqXXHQ6F80T2vziikNA7Z-p23IwWTd1FcoSqC6SlPOIE06uAWKUYtwPVncQFSutqlTH5OjS73T94B4jfogL8sTSVdstF1PeDjloB9h-J_9qnJSI179PTc/s1600/P6270001.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimmFN_q5G3EnZSrd-rXRnD7VdqXXHQ6F80T2vziikNA7Z-p23IwWTd1FcoSqC6SlPOIE06uAWKUYtwPVncQFSutqlTH5OjS73T94B4jfogL8sTSVdstF1PeDjloB9h-J_9qnJSI179PTc/s400/P6270001.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598968939974560402" style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px; " /></a></div></div><div>I ran out of chaomis butter, so this was the replacement. Luckily we kept riding and it got better, but for a second I thought I was going to loose my fingers, haha. Fox here only had on a jersey, arm warmers, a wind vest, and mountain bike gloves in 25 degree blowing snow, and sweaty after an hour climb.
